Problems We Face Today |
|
| Each
day we hear more news regarding the world health crises, mounting unemployment,
crimes and food recalls to list a few. These are just some of the major hard
facts we all must deal with together, to make an attempt to regain control.
Below are a few hard facts we must deal with right away.
Health Crises:
Obesity, Cancer, Diabetes, and Hypertension are running out of control by
the hour. The CDC
(Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) are reporting the
following:
Obesity;
American society has become 'obesogenic,' characterized by environments that
promote increased food intake, nonhealthful foods, and physical inactivity.
Policy and environmental change initiatives that make healthy choices in
nutrition and physical activity available, affordable, and easy will likely
prove most effective in combating obesity.
Cancer; The
CDC does not provide provide a clear rate or determination of ones chances
of getting cancer during a life span, but reports from others sources are
reporting 1 of every 2 today, will get some form of cancer within their
life-time. I am very sure each person that reads this, must know someone
within their family who currently has cancer or past away from it.
Diabetes; As
of 2007, 23.6 million people—7.8% of the population—have diabetes; 1.6
million new cases of diabetes were diagnosed in people aged 20 years or
older in 2007. Diabetes is one of the most common chronic diseases in
children and adolescents; about 151,000 people below the age of 20 years
have diabetes.
CDC has not
updated this information since 2007, which leads one to believe the true
gravity of the problem. Other reliable sources are reporting huge increases
of diabetes cases which are running out of control.
Hypertension;
About 1 of 3 adults in the United States has high blood pressure
(Hypertension), which increases the risk for heart disease and stroke, the
first and third leading causes of death in the United States. High blood
pressure is called the "silent killer" because it often has no
warning signs or symptoms, and many people don't realize they have it.
That's why it's important to get your blood pressure checked
regularly. |
|
| Mounting
Unemployment;
Reports
coming in are stating applications for jobless benefits, bank seizures of
foreclosed homes and retail sales all reflect a dramatic decline in US
economic growth and growing social distress. |
|
| Crimes;
WASHINGTON — Murders, robberies and aggravated assaults in the
United States increased last year, spurring an overall rise in violent crime
for the first time since 2001, according to data from the Federal
Bureau of Investigation. |
|
| Food
Recalls; There are so many food
recalls lately to mention by name. All can be very harmful or deadly if
consume by both humans or animals. With no clear cut regulation nor health
inspections, safety has taken a back seat to profits and greed.
To see the
latest food recalls, you only need to visit the FDA
(US Food and Drug Administration) website. It seems like each or every other
day, there is a new food recall - which affects our normal way of life. For
every new food recall - there are many others that never get reported. These
are the ones that can cause the most damage, due to the high consumption of
never getting reported. |
